In this blog, I shall compare and contrast two newspapers from the 1860s, from North and South. The weekly Carlisle Herald was a Republican newspaper from Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The Democratic, and Southern, counterpart in this study is The Carolina Spartan, of Spartanburg, South Carolina. The purpose of this study is to view the Civil War as it happened through the eyes of the Herald's and the Spartan's readers.
